Greeters Bisca Grands Lacs
But what is a Conteur des Landes?
This innovative concept first saw the light of day in New York in 1992, thanks to Lynn Brooks. The city, nicknamed the "Big Apple", created a form of tourist welcome based on meeting local residents, these volunteers being dubbed Greeters. In English, "to greet" means to welcome.
In 2026, all the volunteers from the Landes region gathered under the "Fédération France Greeter" decided to leave this collective to create their own network: "Conteurs des Landes". The principle remains the same: discover our region with a local volunteer, while adding a more local dimension through this new network specific to the Landes department.
Whether you're in Biscarrosse, Parentis en Born or Sanguinet, Les Conteurs des Landes are volunteer residents with a passion for their town. Coming from all walks of life and of all ages (from 18 upwards), they graciously offer, in their spare time, the opportunity to meet visitors. Although the Conteurs des Landes are not professional guides, they do have a thorough knowledge of their town, and enthusiastically introduce visitors to it during pleasant strolls.
These encounters can take the form of appointments or short walks for up to 6 people, and are always free of charge. The Storyteller of the Landes, driven by a sense of sharing, aspires to unveil the anecdotes and hidden treasures of his or her territory.
